Dr. Coenraad van Schoor
I qualified from Wits in 2007. I did my internship in stages at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, and did my community service at Thambo Memorial Hospital in Emergency Medicine and Trauma.
I subsequently worked in a private casualty in Boksburg as well as doing locum work in rehabilitation medicine.
I decided to persue specialisation in Anatomical Pathology, but after four years decided that my heart is in clinical medicine. Consequently, I worked in Life New Kensington as a full-time rehabilitation doctor, and then started working as a GP.
The image of an old-school family doctor is something that I aspire to embody: a doctor who pulls up a chair and really listens to my patients, giving my patients time to talk without feeling rushed, thinking about the problem with my patients and being a thoughtful problem solver, spending time on a thorough examination without resorting to the shot-gun approach of special investigations that is so pervasive these days in the medical world, and being a doctor who really knows you (and your family).
A true family doctor is independent and free in making clinical decisions, without the restrictive input from medical aids, investors, or board members. I provide my patients with an experience that research has shown is sorely lacking and desperately needed in the current medical establishment.
Some of the services I proved are the following:
Chronic disease management
Acute injuries and disease
HIV testing, counselling, and treatment
Minor surgical procedures (suturing of wounds, skin excisions and biopsies)
Medical insurance medicals (excluding stress ECGs)
Lung function testing
ECG
Pap smear
Psychiatric assessment and treatment
COVID test referral
VISA medicals
